Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
