19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former trainer Cervara.
Now working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks his first championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.
Success also signifies the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.
But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an better serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to create a final set.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
