US President Trump has declared he is raising import taxes on products imported from Canadian sources after the region of the Ontario government broadcast an anti-tariff advertisement using ex-President Ronald Reagan.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, the President labeled the advertisement a "fraud" and lashed out at Canada's officials for not taking down it before the baseball championship.

"Due to their significant falsification of the facts, and hostile act, I am raising the Tariff on Canadian goods by 10% over and above what they are currently paying now," Trump posted.

After Donald Trump on last Thursday ended commercial discussions with Canada, the Ontario's leader announced he would pull the commercial.

The Province Reaction

Ontario Leader the Premier said on last Friday that he would halt his region's anti-tariff ad campaign in the US, advising the media that he decided after discussions with the Prime Minister Mark Carney "so that commercial discussions can resume".

He added it would still run over the weekend, during contests for the baseball championship, which includes the Blue Jays facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trade Background

The Canadian nation is the exclusive Group of Seven country that has not reached a deal with the US since Trump started attempting to levy significant duties on items from primary trade partners.

The US has previously imposed a thirty-five percent levy on each Canada's products - though most are free under an existing commercial pact. It has furthermore applied industry-specific duties on Canadian goods, such as a fifty percent levy on metal products and 25 percent on automobiles.

In his post, posted while he was traveling to Southeast Asia, Trump indicated he was adding 10 percent to those taxes.

Seventy-five percent of Canada's exports are shipped to the US, and the region is home to the largest share of Canada's automobile manufacturing.

Reagan Ad Details

The commercial, which was sponsored by the provincial government, quotes ex-President Ronald Reagan, a Republican and symbol of US conservatism, saying import taxes "damage every American".

The advertisement uses clips from a 1987-era radio speech that addressed global commerce.

The Ronald Reagan Foundation, which is tasked with protecting the ex-president's legacy, had condemned the commercial for using "selective" sound and footage and claimed it misrepresented the former president's address. It further noted the Ontario authorities had not sought authorization to use it.

Ongoing Disputes

In his update on social media on the weekend, Donald Trump said that the advert should have been removed earlier.

"Ontario's Ad was to be taken down IMMEDIATELY, but they allowed it to air yesterday during the MLB finals, aware that it was a FRAUD," he wrote, while en route to Asia.

Doug Ford had earlier promised to run the Ronald Reagan commercial in each Republican region in the United States.

The two the President and the PM will be going to the ASEAN in the Malaysian nation, but Trump advised the media traveling with him on Air Force One that he does not have any "plan" of speaking with his Canadian PM during the journey.

In his message, Donald Trump further claimed the Canadian government of attempting to influence an upcoming American high court case which could terminate his entire tariff regime.

The legal matter, to be reviewed by the Supreme Court soon, will determine whether the import taxes are constitutional.

On Thursday, Trump additionally lashed out, claiming that the advert was created to "meddle" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

The advertisement is not the exclusive way that the province – home of the Toronto Blue Jays – is using the World Series as a opportunity to criticize the President's duties.

In a clip posted on last Friday, Doug Ford and California Governor Gavin Newsom humorously made bets about which club would triumph the championship.

Both men repeatedly bantered about tariffs in the clip, with the Premier promising to deliver the Governor a can of syrup if the Dodgers succeed.

"The tariff might charge me a higher price at the border these days, but it'll be justified," Ford said.

In response, Governor Newsom suggested Doug Ford to resume enabling US-made beverages to be available in regional liquor stores, and promised to deliver "our premium wine" if the Toronto team win.

They ended their dialogue together saying: "Here's to a great World Series, and a duty-free alliance between the province and California."
