Iran Claims Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a significant and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any destruction is uncertain and the US has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Additional Developments
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
