Los Angeles experienced citywide celebrations after the Los Angeles Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-game World Series title. Fans worldwide united with Angelenos in celebration, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a franchise has achieved back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Turnout
Los Angeles area events included a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at Dodger Stadium, and impromptu gatherings across the city.
Online footage show thousands of Los Angeles residents packing downtown streets, many carrying handmade banners and team flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the third time we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The procession path ended at the stadium, where the team emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and Ice Cube cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Festivities started prior to the procession, with supporters lighting fireworks in the roads of the city center on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the MVP of the championship, spoke plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
However, the team owner received a less warm reception at the celebration. Video footage from the event seem to depict him taking the stage to a combination of cheers and jeers, with negative shouts punctuating his speech.
The World Series served as a positive moment in what has been a trying year for Los Angeles. An approximate 225,000 people attended to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, fans this year demonstrated equal or greater enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s truly amazing to be a involved in this.”
