At seventy-two has gone everywhere from Monticello to mainstream media outlets to discuss his latest monumental work: his Revolutionary War documentary, a monumental six-part, 12-hour documentary series that dominated a substantial portion of his recent years and premiered currently on public television.

Burns adds: “Frankly, this may be the best single cast gathered for any production. They do an extraordinary service. Selection wasn’t based on fame. It irritated me when questioned, about the prominent cast. I go, ‘These are actors.’ They are among the world’s best performers and they vitalize these narratives.”

Still, no contemporary observers remain, visual documentation forced Burns and his team to rely extensively on historical documents, weaving together the first-person voices of numerous historical characters. This allowed them to introduce audiences not just the famous founders of that era plus numerous additional essential to the narrative, many of whom remain visually unknown.

Burns also indulged his personal passion for territorial understanding. “Maps fascinate me,” he observes, “with greater cartographic content in this project compared to previous works throughout my entire career.”

International Impact

Filmmakers captured footage at numerous significant sites in various American regions and British sites to capture the landscape’s character and collaborated substantially with re-enactors. These components unite to tell a story more brutal, complicated and internationally important versus conventional understanding.

Taylor maintains, a movement that announced the transformative concept of inherent human rights; a vicious internal conflict, pitting Patriots against Loyalists; and a worldwide engagement, another installment in a sequence of conflicts between Britain, France and Spain for dominance in the New World.
