The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of fascinating future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can take over at will, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these souls will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player believes a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to follow on platforms.
