The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Anger About Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
The platform has recommended to review their products and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Modifications
Earlier, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she said.
Marketplace Information
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change on the platform has faced criticism: earlier, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
