Three-time Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffers a 'devastating' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Nikola Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee when the Denver Nuggets fell 147-123 to the Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half during an unintentional collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.
The other player stepped on the footwear of the MVP, and he immediately fell to the floor holding his knee.
The 30-year-old, who is leading the league season in boards and assists, recorded 21 points and eight dimes in the game before suffering the problem.
He will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to evaluate the extent of the problem.
"Instantly, Jokic realized something was wrong," said Denver coach Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Any player that suffers an injury, it's difficult, most notably somebody as talented as he is. More information will come tomorrow."
"We'll move on together. Obviously, right now, I am more concerned about him as a person and the frustration of experiencing a situation like that."
